24 families are now in new
homes that they built!
We have recently finished working with 17 families that built new homes in the Settler's Bay area outside Wasilla. The homes range in size from three bedroom to four bedroom and all homes include a garage and in-floor hydronic heating. Most of the construction work was done by the homeowners, their friends, and other volunteers. Some construction services were provided by a number of Alaskan businesses. The earliest pictures are at the bottom of the page and the more recent at the top.
Much of the work being done on these projects is the work of volunteers and community minded businesses. If your company or group is looking for a way to build "team spirit" through community service, this project may be just what you are looking for. The pictures below were taken during an USDA Rural Development & Alaska CDC work day. We all enjoyed the opportunity to help others but were surprised to find that we gained so much benefit to ourselves. In addition to the hard work of friends and families, we owe a grateful "thank you" to the following Alaskan companies who have helped make this project a success: House Plans

Bodenburg Butte, 2002 Seven families worked with the Alaska Community Development Corporation to build their own homes. The houses were completed in 2002 in the Bodenburg Butte area of Palmer in the Mat-Su Valley. The seven houses were built using a structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS) from Emercor Building Systems of Canada and R-Valued Homes from Wasilla, Alaska. The seven homes are complete and the builders have moved in to their new homes. A short photo history of the project can be seen in the photos below.
